This blog post has to be short, sweet, and to the point because I neglected to take any photos of these two quilts. A former co-worker’s mom reached out and requested matching T-Shirt quilts for her daughters for Christmas. The quilts featured shirts from family vacations, cheer competitions and more.
I did try something new for these quilts – template quilting. It’s a plastic template which has a design laser cut. I used tailors chalk to trace the design through the template and onto the quilt top. From there, you follow along those drawn lines in a free motion quilting style one the longarm. The customer selected a clamshell design with rounded tops that come to a point in the center, it pretty much looks like mermaid scales. First and foremost, probably not the best option to start with… precise curves even with a template drawn out are not the easiest thing to do when you’re a weeks old longarmer. The clamshells were not perfect by any means, BUT, they quilted the pieces together, and that’s all that matters. Cheers to learning new things and making two quilts for a customer who was thrilled. The imperfections I see are looked over as they look through them at their memories.
